Street Practice
I live across the street from a medical marijuana outlet and a neighborhood bar catering to transgendered people. The corner of my block is a sales distribution spot for various drugs including crystal meth, crack cocaine and heroin. Many folks here also do alcohol. The streets are lively, chaotic and interesting at all hours of the night and day. My apartment is in a low-income building that is home to a wonderfully diverse group of people of various ethnic and social backgrounds. I practice the BuddhaDharma here in a way I've never done before. The challenges of living in the neighborhood are dynamic and at times perilous......dynamic because change of every sort presents itself daily, and perilous because my fragile ego is continually confronted by people and situations that threaten it. It is the perfect practice place for me! I hope you enjoy my sharing of this particular aspect of my Buddhist practice. I welcome any comments you may have. Much love to all.
